How to Reach Us

Email Is Our Primary Channel

The best way to reach Philadelphia Lumber Co. is by email at info@philadelphia-lumber.com. Our team monitors the inbox throughout business hours and prioritizes every message based on urgency. Email lets us give your inquiry the attention it deserves \u2014 we can route your question to the right specialist, pull up inventory data, and respond with accurate information rather than off-the-cuff guesses.

When you email, include as much detail as possible: the type of lumber you need (or want to sell), approximate quantities, your project timeline, and whether you need delivery. The more context we have upfront, the faster and more useful our response will be.

We Respond Within One Business Day

Every email sent to us receives a response within one business day \u2014 usually much sooner. If your inquiry involves a quote, we may need a few additional hours to check current inventory levels and calculate delivery logistics. Messages received after 5:00 PM on weekdays or during the weekend will be addressed first thing the next business day. If your matter is time-sensitive, mention that in your subject line and we'll prioritize accordingly.

What to Expect When You Visit

Our Townsend Road facility is a working lumber yard, not a showroom. When you arrive, you will find organized stacks of reclaimed and new lumber sorted by species and dimension, an active milling shop where boards are being planed and profiled, and a small office where our sales team handles quotes and orders. The atmosphere is informal and productive — steel-toed boots are recommended but not required for visitors staying in the front yard area.

A member of our yard crew will greet you and ask about your project needs. If you know the species, grade, and dimensions you are looking for, we can take you directly to the relevant inventory stacks. If you are still figuring out what you need, we will walk the yard together, discuss options, and help you narrow down the right material. There is no sales pressure — our goal is to match the right wood to the right project.

For customers picking up material, we load your vehicle using our forklift at no charge. If you are driving a personal vehicle (SUV, pickup truck), let us know in advance so we can stage shorter, lighter boards that will fit safely. For larger orders, we strongly recommend using our delivery service or renting a flatbed trailer.

How to Prepare for Your Visit

A little preparation goes a long way. Here is what we recommend before heading to the yard.

Bring Your Measurements

Know the square footage, linear footage, or board footage you need. If you are unsure how to calculate board feet, our sizing guide page has a simple formula, or our yard crew can help you figure it out on the spot. The more precise your measurements, the less waste and fewer return trips.

Know Your Application

Tell us what the wood is for — flooring, accent wall, furniture, structural beams, exterior siding. The intended use determines the species, grade, moisture content, and processing level we recommend. A mantel beam has very different requirements than subflooring.

Bring a Sample If Matching

If you need to match existing wood in your home or project, bring a sample piece (even a small off-cut works). Our graders can identify the species, grain pattern, and approximate age, making it much easier to find a compatible match in our inventory.

Dress for a Lumber Yard

Closed-toe shoes are a must. Gloves are helpful if you plan to handle rough-sawn stock. The yard is partially exposed to weather, so dress for the season. We have a covered area near the office where you can review samples and discuss options out of the elements.

Plan Your Transport

If you plan to take material home the same day, make sure your vehicle can handle the length and weight. A 6-foot pickup bed cannot safely carry 12-foot boards. We can hold material for up to 7 days while you arrange a trailer or schedule delivery.

Email Ahead for Large Orders

If you need more than 200 board feet or are looking for a specific species, emailing ahead gives us time to pull inventory, check availability, and have the right team member available when you arrive. Walk-ins are always welcome, but advance notice ensures a smoother experience.

Parking & Site Information

Our facility has ample free parking for customers. The parking area is located directly in front of our office entrance and can accommodate passenger vehicles, pickup trucks, and trailers up to 30 feet. If you are bringing a full-size flatbed or tractor-trailer for a large pickup, please call ahead so we can reserve space in our loading area and ensure our forklift operator is available.

The yard itself is a gravel and compacted-earth surface. It is accessible to standard vehicles in all weather conditions, though we recommend caution during heavy rain or snow. Our loading zone is covered, allowing us to load vehicles in inclement weather without exposing finished lumber to moisture.

Accessibility: Our office and front showroom area are accessible via a paved walkway from the parking area. The lumber yard and milling shop are working industrial environments with uneven terrain. If you have mobility concerns, let us know when you arrive and we will bring sample material to the office area for your review, or we can arrange a video walkthrough of specific inventory.

Pets and children: For safety reasons, pets and children under 16 are not permitted in the yard or milling areas. They are welcome to wait in the office, which has seating and climate control.
